Race Guide

Pocket Rocket Racing

Balance bike or mini pedaller? This is for you…

If your rider isn’t able to race a full lap of the track then Pocket Rocket racing is a perfect place to start, it’s all about the fun and no pressure, no need to book, just turn up on a club race day and pay £5.00.

Its super relaxed, parents can run alongside riders and even help if they get a bit stuck, they only race ¼ of the track but get full commentary and a crowd to cheer them on.

At the end of racing, they all get a medal and chance to stand on the podium!!!

Little legs too tired to complete a full day? No probs you just let us know and they can always sit one of the motos out.

Club Racing

This is your introduction to “proper” BMX racing, we run a full schedule with categories made up according to their age group.

Every rider gets 3 Motos (heats) then the top riders will go into knock out rounds, until we end up with the main final in each category.

Every rider gets a “Final” though so even beginners who may not do well in the motos will get their chance to race a final with riders of similar ability.

It’s not super serious, categories can be mixed wheel sizes, and we allow all bike types as long as it’s mechanically safe to race. If needed you can always borrow on of the club bikes.

Regional Racing & Beyond

Regional racing is when things start to get it bit more focussed.

There are still novice categories, but you are expected to have your own BMX bike which is fit for purpose and the races are run in accordance with British Cycling technically regulations, so the aim is to get your rider up to the standards required.

If you’re racing in the expert categories, you will need the following:

  • Race Plates & Side Plates which meet the correct specification

  • My Laps Transponder & Subscription

  • Clothing needs to be suitable and for the purpose of BMX racing, no joggers, jeans etc.

  • Bike needs to be mechanically sound and adhere to the British Cycling tech guide.

We recommended everyone to familiarise themselves with the Tech Guide and the Midlands Regional website linked below

If youre unsure of anything when racing speak with the coaches at the club who will be best placed to advise about your specific rider.
